Bones

Your bone density will be measured at 4 sites (whole body, spine, hip and wrist) using a number of sophisticated techniques (below). We will measure each of these sites 3 x times and provide you with the results so you can share it with your doctor or health care practitioner at the conclusion of the 12 month study:

• DXA
  • a non-invasive x-ray, valued at approx $200 per scan
• High Resolution-pQCT
  • a 3D x-ray, the only one available in Australia, valued at $500 per scan
• QUS
  • a type of ultra-sound
